Improving the quality

Current Situation

I put most of the teenboy sites photography into three separate categories.
  • Cheap and Cheerful
  • Technically Correct
  • Artistic

Cheap and Cheerful

Here you have the photographer typically with a digital camera, one or two halogen floodlights and shooting on location in an apartment or hotel room.

The quality of the resulting images is usually some kind of yellow cast with high contast, bleached areas and strong shadows. Sometimes a kind of gunge outline surrounds the boys body as the digital camera trys to merge the boy with the background. Its called interpolation, and basically does a very bad job with indoor floodlighting. Many of the shots will be out of focus as the camera gets confused by the incorrect temperature lighting conditions.

Technically Correct

The next level up is the photographer with a flash head, brolly or soft box, and a fairly sound digital camera or possibly even film camera. You will not see bleached areas, or too many shadows. This is how the boy looks at the time of the photo, without any disturbances from bad lighting or camera interpolation.

Most of the sites listed at the top of the BoyReview list will fit into this category. Technical photography, its perfect for jerk off material, which is what 80%+ of the audience want.

Artistic

This is usually an area best left to professional models and studios. However, some of the websites listed here obviously have a flair for this type of work. To me its the ultimate statement in attention to detail and professionalism. For many, it just looks like bad lighting, but to the trained eye it is anything but poor lighting. The idea behind this is to use lighting effects to emphasis skin tone and body curves.

Tis a brave man who attempts this kind of work with teenagers (18-19) as they usually dont have the patience to stand in front of the camera for such long periods. Their boredom threshold is very low indeed.

Whilst there is a demand for artistic photography, the vast majority of visitors to the teenboy sites are not really interested. But that small percentage are prepared to pay the extra for this type of work.

Improving the image

The photographers still running around with their portable halogen lights, your time is coming to an end. Now that portable flash heads are easy to obtain and also easy to transport, there is no excuse anymore. Plus your average consumer level camera has 8mpixels, which is more than enough for web work. Thus you dont have to break the bank to get the results.

People are getting a little bored with the same old backgrounds, strip and cum routines. Time for some fresh ideas, a little investment in your project, and some imagination. Its fine if the boy is ultra cute, but lets face it, how often does that happen? And beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so thats very subjective indeed.

Improving the models

The photographer will typically find a boy and photograph him the same day. There is no rapport between them, and the boy is a little nervous. In my opinion, the photographer should invest some time to spend with the boy. Making sure that he has at least a day to make the photoshoot, instead of the couple hours it usually takes.

Of course this is not always practical, but with the number of sites increasing on a daily basis, you will be left behind if you dont move with the times.
